The Irondequoit Historical Society was organized in 1963 by a group of seven Irondequoiters who shared a common interest in history – in particular, that of Irondequoit and surrounding areas. Since its founding, the society has grown to a membership of over 100 people who attend monthly meetings at the Irondequoit Public Library, 1290 Titus Avenue, in Irondequoit.
Meetings are held at 7:00 PM on the first Thursday of each month, September thru June (except January), and include a brief business and informational update, the main program, and refreshments. Over the years a great variety of topics have been presented relating to area history, such as geology, Native Americans, arts and crafts, historic homes, pioneer families, Sea Breeze, the Genesee River, and Irondequoit Bay.
The society supports the Town Historian by volunteering as docents at the Pioneer House Museum and Blacksmith Shop and helping to catalog historic documents. It also has a collection of local history publications available for purchase.
Annual membership is open to anyone who is interested in participating in the Society’s activities.
Dues are $15 (Individual), $20 (Family), and $35 (Patron).
